A singer/songwriter with a range that spans a wide expanse of American popular music, Mike Wimberly’s musical journey covers multiple decades and genres, multiple styles and instruments, and multiple skills. Mike earned a degree in music education from the Berklee College of Music in 1981. He exemplifies the categorization of an Americana musician. He has played with countless musical groups in many settings including rock, jazz, country, folk, bluegrass, and classical … not to mention polka bands, pit bands, church choirs, coffee houses, wedding bands, birthday parties, children’s concerts, & busking for dimes and quarters…
Mike is a multi-dimensional musician who is at home in many musical settings. He is as at home with a Carter Family song as he is with a Duke Ellington song, Woody Guthrie to Stephen Foster, Chuck Berry to the Beatles, Paul Simon to Dave Matthews and beyond.
Whenever possible Mike likes to draw on his repertoire of original songs. His compositions are a blend of folk rock tinged with hints of jazz, country, and tin pan alley.
For guitar lessons, all styles, ages and levels of proficiency are welcomed.
Mike will always welcome inquiries for gigs and sessions. You are in the right place if you’re looking for a seasoned player who understands how to provide the perfect music for any occasion.
Later in his career, Mike developed a fascination for how stringed instruments are constructed. He had a private tutorial with famed luthier William Cumpiano, learning how to construct premium quality acoustic guitars, and also studied with DJ Parsons to learn the details of guitar repair. Wimberly Guitar & Luthiery can provide the service you need at the price you like if you have a stringed instrument that needs repair.
